Lenny gets a high-def plasma
Did everyone catch last nights Simpsons? The
entire show is about how great high-definition is and the lengths that people will go for a plasma. Lenny threw a big
party to announce it only to have Homer camp out on his couch for 3 days watching random crappy programing. That
sounds somewhat familiar doesn't it? 10 bucks says that a producer on the show just got his (or hers) first HDTV.
Is this a sign of the future? Is the Simpson's going high definition? We sure hope so.

Remember that this was the episode that Ricky Gervais (The Office) wrote. I think he's had HDTV for some time.

Cartoons are all computer-animated these days, why not adjust it to widescreen and give it a native 720p feed?

The Simpsons in HD would be great! I think that those simple shows are neat to watch in HD in their own way. It's not realistic as looking at an underwater Shark Week show on Discovery HD, but I don't think that you're going to find a better technical demonstration of HD than those relatively simple scenes....

Drawing The Simpsons in 720p would be a tremendous strain on the animators' wrists to get those extra 240 lines. (Yes, this is a joke.)

The Simpsons is not created with computers like South Park. The cartoon is still drawn by hand and it takes 9 months to complete an episode. Therfore, maybe they already have started drawing it in the 16:9 aspect ratio and it will just take a while for it to be broadcasted onto tv.

Actually the Simpsons have been all about HDTV, there have been quite a few jokes about it. I think the first was in Season 9. A guy at Moe's says something to the tune of, "That will teach the government not to drag their feet on High Definition TV!"
