Playstation 3 delay is official
In the "who didn't see this
coming?" news of the day Sony has announced that the Playstation
3 won't be shipping this Spring. A Japanese newspaper is reporting the launch has been pushed back to November in
Japan, potentially leaving US high definition gamers PS3-less until 2007. The stated reason for the delay? Copy
protection related to the Blu-ray drive. Apparently that preliminary AACS agreement wasn't enough, or maybe Sony is
just planning on slipping a combo (or at least 4x drive) in the
unit.It's been pretty obvious that the PS3 would slip, with it being March and developers still not having final hardware to work on, but November seems pretty late, it will be interesting to see how they keep the hype machine rolling all year long.
Hopefully we will learn more about Sony's next generation plans tomorrow.

... ok well thats not a good thing for blu-ray adoption, but its actually brilliant for prepping a marketing blast that makes the PS3 the "IT" item for christmas, and if a pre-order guarenteed delivery exists, i will probably buy, knowing full well that sony is losing loads of upfront $$$ and that i will end up paying that in media and game costs... Sony's latest copy protection scandal will likely be forgotten by then... as will the xbox 3sumthin, and more LCD HDTV's will be in the marketspace by then.

There's one small caveat: This is from unnamed sources, not an official Sony announcement. Regardless, it doesn't look good.

Jeff sorry to say but if its launched in november that will be for japan not north america. Your right it may be the it item for xmas but 2007 not this year. Microsoft may have a new system before sony even gets theirs launched. Im guessing the it item will be Nintendos revolution and the new zelda. Hey at least it will be cheap so we can all afford the playstation in 2007.

This makes sense when you take in to account all of the delays that have been arising lately for Blu-Ray & HD-DVD.
