Sorry, no SEDs this year
They are aiming for this release date to meet the demands of the 2008 Beijing Summer Games. Don't ya think that if the TVs were out now, their supply chains could be be full in two summers. Oh well. What can a guy do?

Darn. Guess it will be DLP for me this year.

#5's comment "leakage" of gas? Haven't ever heard of that in over 6 years of serving plasma purchasers. But it's a good example of misinformation that perpetuates itself about the plasma display category.
For the record, plasma displays are sealed at the factory and are no more likely to leak gas than the neon beer sign in the window of your favorite neighborhood tavern.

Doh! above comment was for the linked story about SED, and refer's to the reader comment #5. http://www.hdbeat.com/2005/08/16/sed-technology-explained/
Sorry

I'm sad... CES got me sooo excited, I've got my money hoarded and ready to put down on an SED... and now what?
Here is what I'm thinking: Samsung's LED DLP... looks great, long life, no rainbow.
Anyone have any suggestions for a good smaller flat screen for the beadroom?

I wanted to wait for SED, but gave up waiting. I got a DLP instead, and am very, very glad I bought it.

That seems like a great TV, but from what I'm reading has relatively poor black levels and saturation issues, thx for the recomendation though. I hate being torn between sets, it just makes me want to wait a few more months to see if one really exceptional and relatively cheap one comes out one of these days.

I told people over and over again, there is no way they'd be out this year. And you think they can see into 2007 from here? Why would you think 2007 is right when the SED folks have missed so many target dates? They won't be here for a year or two, count on it. And by that time competing technology (having had the wits scared out of them by what SED "could" do) will have beefed up their technologies so they are competitive, which means SED won't regain the premium price they had planned on and the R&D writeoff will be something ugly.
Just wait and see...
