HD-DVD movies in March?
There were a few things that concerned me
during the HD-DVD demo yesterday that were also discussed in the comments. Thanks to zombieflanders for providing us
with this link to an article over the Video Business Online, it appears that I am not the only one that is concerned
with the release of HD-DVD. At this point there are many unanswered questions and we're getting down to the wire with
less than 3 weeks. According to the article there are many concerns about availability and price of the titles to
be released with the player. The other thing of concern is that they are still showing a prototype, not a production
model. Yesterday the Toshiba representative told me the players would be in stock this month, while the Sound Advice
sales manger told me he didn't expect to get any this month. It seems impossible to expect them soon when they can't
even demo a production model yet, is this related to the recent AACS issues?Do you think they are going to pull this off by the end of March? Will the Blu-Ray release that is scheduled for less than 60 days later have the same issues? What good is a player if there are only 3 movies and will you buy one with only 3 movies available?
Thanks zombieflanders!

From my own sources we are expecting players in-stock by the end of the month, though rumors of a two-week delay on the A1 have been circulating. My computer is showing a potential in-stock though on March 16th, which seems early, but possible.
The interesting info is that we have nothing on the HD-DVD titles. I poked around and couldn't find a new category or mention of them. This doesn't bode well, as generally new stuff is in the system weeks ahead of time. It better hit soon.
The good news is that the lack of content will mean that having a player in the first couple weeks isn't as big a deal. Who cares if you have it if you can't watch anything, eh?

Personally, I support the HD-DVD camp, although I won't be buying either for at least 2 years, I'd say. That being said, I thinkt hat both players are rushing to market and pushing things further than they should. Right now, it looks like Blu-Ray is more prepared and has more titles, and that HD-DVD is just trying to beat Blu-Ray to market and hope that that wins it for them. Right now, this tells me that Blu-Ray is more likely to be successfull, although I think a lot of it could have to do with the PS3 vs Xbox 360, interestingly enough...

WOW!! Disney's CEO Bob Iger said today that Disney would relase titles in both Blu-Ray and HD DVD. No lie, he said it at the annual shareholder meeting today when asked about Blu-Ray.
Is the Blu-Ray camp imploding? Didn't LG just announce they building players for both as well.
