So
our usual sources are
indicating that the 78th Annual Academy Awards are not in HDTV, but several of you are indicating that they are. What
gives? We typically check TitanTV and even double-check on the network's own website; at this point, we don't see the
show in high-def, but we're hoping that they are. ABC's own program schedule (shown above) does not show the telecast
in HD, but we'll double-check at 8:00 on the nose. While we're checking, would you do us a favor and do the same? Check
back in here and tell us if your local provider is showing the Oscars in HD and be sure to let us know roughly where you
are as well. We didn't believe that ABC would muck this up with an SD broadcast, but we can only go by what we
see. Thanks to
everyone who wrote
in on this. If you've got time, be sure to check out the live-blog coverage
over
at Cinematical; they're covering the whole show regardless of the res!

I live in Houston, TX and the Oscar Countdown is currently in HD. I'm pulling in OTA. Good luck.

The guide on my Motorola 6412 (Cox) shows that it will be in HDTV. It is a pretty good at knowing...it called the Victoria's Secret fashion show being in HD when most signs pointed to no. I'd say there's a good chance it stays in HD for us.

I have both directv locals & OTA, I am receiving them both channels in HD. Although it is only the count down to the awards, it would be pretty stupid to go from HD to SD when the show actually starts!

We've got it in Philly OTA as well; TitanTV and ABC aren't up to date for my area, but I won't hold it against them since ABC came through in the end! Enjoy the show everyone!

No HD for me, I'm in L.A. and have DorecTV.
Frank @ Mar 6th 2006 1:03AM
Saw the show on HD. It appears there was too much makeup on several actors (not the comedy bit). Is this because of the HD?
Amol @ Mar 6th 2006 2:06AM
TitanTV said HD for me ...
OTA in Los Angeles
Brenton @ Mar 6th 2006 2:09AM
In Albuquerque the Oscars were shown in HD on OTA antenna and Comcast Cable. I just still pissed I couldn't record Battlestar on UHD on my Comcast HDVR while I was watching the Oscars.

It was in HD in the San Francisco area (pulled in OTA), and I have to say, the sound mixing was great - you felt like you were sitting in the middle of the theater.
