Gefen's new component extender
In today's home theaters, no one want to
have all their fancy equipment sitting on top of their shiny new HDTVs, and yesterday's technology can't help much when
it comes to distributing HD signals around the
house. Transferring HD material throughout the house or even to another room just got a little easier with Gefen's new Component Extender. The extender uses CAT5 to extend your VGA or component signals up to 300 feet and handles 1080p transmissions. It has VGA ports on the box but includes the VGA to component adapter. I could have used one of these in my setup, but instead I used 3 coax runs which are a little harder to run than a single CAT5 cable. On the other hand 3 coax runs doesn't cost $300 like Gefen's new device.

I hate to do this, but this is becoming a serious pet peeve of mine...
It's "could HAVE used one," not "could OF used one." COULD HAVE is an actual verb.

Thanks for the catching our grammatical "Easter Egg". Now we know you're REALLY reading our every word! All fixed.

Permanent,
Thanks for the correction, on a side note I am having flashbacks from 9th grade english. I am going to post a sticky on my monitor that says "Could Have!"

Home Depot sells something like this for much cheaper, made by Leviton, Heres some at Smarthome.com. They have standard connectors that snap into plates that transfer over cat5. They don't have vga, but they have s-video and rca, the rca I'm sure you could hook up multiple in order to use for component.

The downside of the $300.00 device is its singlecast functionality. Whatever source you're playing from must be dedicated to outputting that signal. Assuming the source is a computer (Cat5 and VGA.. I'd say that's safe) then a media extender (pick one of many HD media extenders under $300.00) would be a much better option.
