FiOS: now available in parts of California
Verizon is adding new places to the list of FiOS customers so fast it
is hardly news anymore. Unless of course they are adding it in your area, in which case, it could be the best news
you heard all week. I'm glad to see them rolling out more areas and hope they keep up the good work. This week Murrieta and Beaumont area customers join the people from Texas, Florida, Virgina, Massachusetts, and New York in an exclusive club that is becoming less exclusive. Unfortunately this is only an additional 80,000 people which isn't a large percentage of all the people that live in California.

I have it in Redondo Beach, CA, as well. I am getting 15mbps download and 1.7 mbps upload. Installation was relatively easy. They had a pre-installation, where sub-contractors come out and run the fiber from the telephone pole to the house and place a box (about 24"h x 10"w x 10"d on the outside of the house. Then another Verizon tech. comes out and mounts another device (the battery backup) inside your garage and run the cable.
Here then on, it's basically the same as a cable internal installation. setup the router (which they provided!!! D-Link Super-G), etc. They were really nice and helpful. Offered to setup the router, install the branded software, and even went to www.speakeasy.net/speedtest to show you that you are truely getting the bandwidth that they advertise!!! They even showed me a tool called TCPOptimizer (which I was familiar with), that went through Windows and modified a number of things related to the TCP/IP settings to get the most out of the additional bandwidth.
I was getting 6mbps download and 768kbps upload with Adelphia for $54+tax/per month. Now I get 15mbps download and 1.7 mbps download for $50. nice!!! :)
Hope it comes to your neighborhood soon!!!

Come to Dallas dammit! You are down the street in Keller, so what are you waiting on Verizon?

It is probably your county or city government that is not cooperating. That seems to be the problem in most places.

My experience with FIOS in Virginia has been OK. Biggest disappointment is that FIOSTV does not have sports packages....MLB.
