Many people say they can tell a difference and add "So what"! They are happy with standard TV. They're happy to save their money or spend it elsewhere. Look at people who watch i-pod and these UMD discs with video quality comparable or worse than VHS. Most people don't notice enough of a difference, or aren't really impressed enough with the difference to make the change.

Another proof the general public aren't eager to go HD.. When was the last time any one went to a movie theatre and said, "Wow! Look at that beautiful 70mm movie image!"

Most movies are still recorded on 35mm film, but 70mm offers by far, a much better image than HD-TV does over standard TV. Simple basic math... Divide a 35mm frame into 720 x 480 units (pixels). 70mm film has 4 times the area of 35mm so that gives 2880 x 1920 units (pixels), much more than HD is presently offering!

Likewise, if this guy is from England, they have "PAL" which is already 'noticably' closer to HD-TV than the "NTSC" we have in the states.

Most people are happy a Ford while only a few 'need' a Corvette!

Ray Morris

Comments on Congratulations, you don't have an HDTV. If see a comedian in HD, do you laugh harder than you would if it was in Standard TV? Look at all the people who look as though they almost never clean their glasses. All the dirt and filth all over their lenses, viewing real life, for them, must be worse than ST-TV! Seemingly, they don't mind!

One big motive why people are going HD is because they know they have to, since the government is shutting down SD-TV. If the government would keep out of all this, SD-TV would continue on as long or longer than shortwave and AM radio! Why else must they make it a law to shut SD-TV down? Many people feel they are being 'forced' into HD-TV.

Ray Morris
