Matsushita says good-bye to CRTs
Matsushita, the parent company of both Panasonic and JVC, announced that they're shutting down CRT manufacturing in Europe and the United States. Plants in both areas will cease production by March of 2006 and effectively make Matsushita a microdisplay and flat-panel only player.I have to admit that I'm disappointed for sentimental reasons. My first HDTV set, which is still our primary set, is a 34-inch widescreen CRT from Panasonic's T[tau] series. We just celebrated the Panny's fourth birthday last month and he's growing up so fast. I'm also a little surprised that Matsushita hasn't taken the Samsung approach with slimmer-CRT development since the CRT sets have been solid performers.

Not surprised, but sad! I would expect that this news will be followed up by the same announcement from Sony soon enough! I suspected that my 34XBR960 was the final chapter in the CRT game. I have to say though that bar none, I have yet to see a picture that rivals the one I get from my Sony CRT! I also have a Pioneer Pro plasma, and believe me, while I like it alot, when it comes to reference picture quality, it doesn't come close to my callibrated XBR!

I just celebrated my 3rd aniversary with my 30 inch WS Panny...still running like a charm...they'll still be made but from another manufacturer for those who do not want their TV stolen..some robber broke into the house and couldnt pick mine up! ha! they did steal the cable box!
