HD Beat Poll: Planning to buy an Xbox 360?
All of the HD game trailers and stories about the Xbox 360's Windows Media Center Extender has me wondering how many of our readers are planning an Xbox 360 purchase. You've got two ways to benefit: high-def gaming and streaming HD content from a WMCE PC. If you download some Quicktime HD or WMV-HD videos, you could watch those as well; hmmm....maybe HD-DVD and Blu-Ray have a legitimate competitor?
Anyway, with 17 days before the official U.S. launch of the console, we thought we'd ask you HD Beat readers what your plans are. Hey, what can we tell you; we're just a nosy bunch! After you register your vote, go and check Joystiq's Xbox 360 coverage for additional info on the console.

How about another poll option - YES, but I don't have WMC... but I'm considering buying it after I get my 360!

Well I am planing on getting a 360, but I am also planing on getting my fist HDTV to go with it. However I have a very limted budget for the setup :(

Got 2 of them pre-ordered. One for me and one for ebay.
AIM Buddies @ Nov 6th 2005 5:42AM
Yup, I'll definitely buy one.

Wow, from the results so far it looks like Microsoft has done a bang-on marketting job this time. ;)

Well my $.02: I don't plan on buying one right away. Even though there is news that this may not happen, I want to wait till either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray comes with the PS3. I would unfortunatly rather have the 360 over a PS3 (the lesser of two evils).
They have to get these HD Movie players out and fast, the reason I want that is because in my household that is used more (DVD player) over my xBox and PSP

I will probably buy both and have a custom MC but ... i have higher expectations of quality from the PS3 than i will from the 360...the newer MCE will be HD hopefully next year and that equipment and software is likely to become the marketplace std.
and i'm ok with that, whenever it integrates better with cable-hd provisioning... i kid you not, i have 8 remotes on my table. bleh.

I am getting a 360. I dont have MC and dont plan on purchasing it either.

I would add a response for "Not until they have a better lineup of games."
I'm a diehard XBOX fan; however, the launch titles aren't impressing me. So I'm not willing to spend $500 to get the system and (what I perceive as) a mediocre game.
Had they launched the console in August with Madden 06 and Burnout Revenge, I would have been all over it.

Why isn't the free option - I'll be downloading and using the free Windows Media Connect rather than a WMCE PC, listed?
I'm squarely in the "bought a 360 and will be using it with WinXP and WMC" camp. The ability to use the 360 as a digital media receiver is a huge selling point.
Richard Lawler @ Nov 8th 2005 12:10AM
Dave, you cannot stream video to the 360 without Media Center Edition. with windows XP and media center connect you will be able to stream music, but not video. That's why that option is not there, because this is about how many may be taking advantage of streaming video or plan to.
revolutionary_next_gen @ Nov 8th 2005 12:38AM
forget this crap my money is on the revolution
Matt @ Nov 8th 2005 1:18AM
Wait, backup just a bit. I assumed that a media center pc meant one capable of video and music. So I need a fucking special computer just to transfer movie? Thats ridiculous. Im forking out $399.99 on an advanced video game system that can do more than just games, but I should've assumed with Microsoft that theres always a catch. Anyone care to elbaorate on what I can do with just a standard XP Pro computer synced to a 360? Music isn't too appealing for me seeing as I have a 10 year old tv with lousy speakers, and a computer with nice ones.
Richard Lawler @ Nov 8th 2005 2:01AM
Matt, reply #12, I did elaborate on the differences between regular XP and XP Media Center edition. Thats it.
JulioC @ Nov 8th 2005 5:37AM
Why isnt the Revolution there?

What if I AM a gamer, but just don't have any interest yet in either the PS3 and XBox 360? Maybe I'm the type of gamer who recognizes the value in the many many many games I have yet to play in this generation, as well as the last few. Where's the option for me?
Josh @ Nov 9th 2005 4:59PM
I too haven't finished with the original xbox yet. although i did get it at launch. I will buy the 360 in march (Sort of a annual thang i suppose). Still playing farcry instincts and looking forward to half life 2 and the sims 2.
It will be hard but i am willing to wait to get the absolute maximum from my current console.
