Sony's SXRD 4K projector
So you've got all the friends over on Monday Night, but you're not watching the game, oh no, you're watching live broadcasts from the sea floor. Why? Because it's in 4K fool, 4 times the resolution of high definition TV. The only way you could be doing that is if you have one of these. With an incredible resolution of 4096x2160, it's designed for screens up to 40 feet wide, so you may want to invite your neighbors since it's their house you'll be projecting on. Since you can't even find 1080p content yet, good luck finding something to watch. No price listed, but its intended for theater use and they're only making 100 of them a month, so I guess if you have to ask......

Maybe you can ask for a permanent review sample.

Why is this device called the "4K" projector when it has a resolution of 8 million pixels? If it's because it has four "times" the resolution of 1080p, shouldn't it be called "4X"?

4000 horizontal pixels is where they got the name from apparently. http://www.igrid2005.org/media/press_09.26.05_cinema.html
man, I wish I could get my hands on one, ha, every 1080p set would suddenly only get a half a star in each review, they just wouldn't compare. I wonder how good the scaler is at upconverting SD content tho....

:)
If you're watching SD on this thing, you need help.

Live pictures from the sea floor would have been more entertaining than last night's game. If it weren't for Warrick Dunn, that game would have been COMPLETELY unwatchable. Michael Vick will never be more than a sideshow until he stops running all the time.
The 4K projectors are actually designed for digital cinema, where that kind of resolution can make a big difference. We have a local cinema here that shows Monday Night Football games on a 35-foot screen, but they project an SDTV image from a cable box -- VERY fuzzy -- and they're not willing to upgrade until some digital cinema standards are finalized. I think it's a waste. Even HD resolution through that 4K projector would probably look pretty good on a large movie screen...

If you watched the game, the whole reason dunn had so much room to run, was because the linebackers were all looking for vick on the bootleg. You can think vick is a good qb or not all you want, but the falcons will continue winning with him under center, and not winning without him under center.

How can it be 4 times HD?
1920x1080 times 4 = 7680x4320
1920x1080 times 2 = 3840x2160
So it shoulde be more like dubble the HD-quality or what am I missing?

Jimmy, here's a diagram to explain.
__
|__| = 1920x1080

|__|__| = 4096x2160

See, 4 times the screen area.
Jimmy @ Oct 26th 2005 3:01PM
Yeah 4 times the screen AREA, not the resolution!?
