The interesting point is that its really major distribution houses that matter and they are the ones to weigh-in on it when it happens. Think names like Universal and Gulf & Western, etc. The rest is MFG and shops.

One thing i find fascinating is the HD-WMV format as opposed to mpeg2 etc, and the new and fragile "Media Center Pro" market. The image is quite nice from that, and it is very compact with all the required DRM (Digital Rights Management)

I think when the time comes ( very soon ) it is likely a win-win for the smart consumer who really wants the best, since it is the High Def DVD that will deliver your best 1080p. I have seen it and it is superb.

Jeff Johnson

Comments on

Why are you using this post to bash encoders, especially BD supports the same formats as HD-DVD? Sheesh.

More to the point, however...

Fox has already released almost all these titles in HD!! They're available on D-VHS. That means we can expect Episodes I through VI to hit Blu-Ray. And what does that mean? HD-DVD loses. As for codecs, look for Blu-Ray to drop Windows Media 9 (AV-1) from official support. H.264 is better, and why exactly would Sony be willing to pay Microsoft a royalty on each Playstation3 just to offer support for AV-1?

The Jeremy

Comments on

Why are you using this post to bash encoders, especially BD supports the same formats as HD-DVD?
